Sleeping Pills Are Not the Answer for Insomnia
People everywhere look to find answers and solutions to their problems and they want it to fast and to work fast too. When it comes to insomnia problems, perhaps the first thing a person turns to or asks a doctor for are sleeping pills.
But this will not be the answer to the true reason or answer for a person's insomnia. Sleeping pills merely mask the real reason a person is having sleeping difficulties and is only a temporary fix for getting some sleep as they do not give a person the right type of sleep that the body requires and does not resolve the problem or problems causing the insomnia to begin with.
In fact, sleeping pills have been recently been considered to be merely tranquilizers for humans to have the ability to forget they have not been able to sleep, rather than actual sleeping occurring. Sleeping pills often leave a person drowsy or groggy on the following day, making normal healthy functions difficult especially if one needs to drive or work.
This could actually be hazardous to one's health or the health of someone else. It has been found that when a person stops taking certain sleeping pill medications that the problem of insomnia can actually be worse than before the prescription was used. This can cause a continual use of more sleeping medications as well as higher dosages as the body builds up an immunity to the medication and the effectiveness wears off over time.
If a person decides to stop taking a sleeping medication, they must gradually take themselves off rather than stopping all together, to avoid adverse effects and withdrawal symptoms. If it is not enough to worry about the possible side effects of these sleeping medications, the fact that many have died from not using the medications correctly as instructed or in combination with other items that should not be mixed or with previous known or unknown health conditions, should make you stop and ask yourself if this is the right path to go on.
While prescription medicines may help temporarily to get a few zzz's, the real reasons for insomnia should be removed during this time. Nearly all of insomnia causes can be resolved by looking at a person's life to see what areas of improvement need to be made. As a way to find out the culprit causing mischief with your night time slumber, make one adjustment at a time.
Some key areas to try, although there are many and a doctor can help with this plan of attack to regain normalized sleep patterns, would be to make sure your sleep times are on a regular schedule, taking a calming bath or shower before bedtime, avoid work or stressful situations before bed, meals and snacks should be avoided up to three hours before bedtime, alcohol and caffeine should be avoided, watching movies or television is a stimulant to the mind and should be avoided before bedtime and daily exercise can be performed, preferably in the evening, so the body, mind and muscles are all ready for sleep.
Nearly all insomnia problems can be resolved by finding out which behavioral or environmental reason is the cause.
